After the Indonesian government declared Aceh under martial law in May 19 2003, 600 schools were systematically burned by unknown group. Also burned were 423 schools elementary schools, leaving thousands of pupils at critical age with no education. Femina Group took the initiatives to raised funds from our readers and friends. Our focus is simple: the children's welfare.

Within months, Femina group set up a fund to assist these children. As the effort to promote the fund was underway, following criteria were set to as a guideline in channeling the money:

1. Femina group have to be able to directly control the relieve effort to
    ensure accountability and quality control
2. The children have to directly feel the impact of the relieve fund

A team consisting of seasoned journalists and relieve workers was sent to Aceh in order to assess the situation and studied all possibilities. Meanwhile, the fund successfully generated Rp. 550 million. Between September 2003 to December 2004 (before the tsunami hits) teams from Femina group has been visiting Aceh seven times and directly assisting 27 schools in 3 regencies. As a matter of fact, this effort is still ongoing and we just had Widarti (Femina Group Board of Director Member) and Petty (Femina Chief Editor) handed over sets of school furniture directly to some schools in Aceh about 3 before the tsunami hits! Please help us to sustain this effort by contributing to our new relieve effort.

 

Femina Group takes several steps to ensure your donation goes directly for the cause, without a penny missing. Even the burden of operational cost for this effort will be borned by Femina Group. The following is our procedure:

Direct Relieve effort by Femina Group
1 Working with provincial education board, Femina Group lists all the schools that needs donation.
2 Prioritized shortlisted schools, based on readiness and needs.
3 Create a bidding and procurement process directly with supplier to ensure efficiency.
4 Quality and quantity check on procured items
5 Directly distribute the finished donation, in the form of ready to use items, to target schools to avoid manipulation and corruption.
